In a continuing effort toward creating a collaborative culture, please find a summary of the Scott County Board of Education special-called meeting on January 7, 2016. The Scott County Board of Education met on January 7, 2016 at 6:30pm at the Great Crossing Office Complex. Members of the Scott County High School FFA Alumni Association presented a traditional embroidered jacket to the Scott County Board of Education to replace the original gift to Seisho High School in Tahara, Japan given in honor of our sister city 25 years ago. The FFA Alumni Association is an active group of dedicated leaders which supports agriculture education and has donated more than $375 in scholarships to Scott County High School students.
Next, members of the board voted 3-2 to approve calendar Option A for the 2016-2017 school year with the first day of school for students being Thursday, August 11. The calendar includes a full week for fall break, October 3-7, and two full weeks for winter break, December 19-30. View the complete calendar here: 2016-2017 Calendar.
The Scott County Board of Education approved the School Board Meeting Schedule for 2016 to include the following meetings which will take place at 6:30pm at the Great Crossing Office Complex (Central Office).

KSBA Facilitator Tim Eaton and board members next welcomed members of the Superintendent Screening Committee which includes Board Member Jennifer Holbert, Director of Maintenance Dwayne Ellison, Southern Elementary Principal Bryan Blankenship, Teacher Willow Hambrick, Administrative Assistant Patty Cornett, and Parent Cassie Robinson-Slaughter. Discussion included an overview of the qualities for a new Superintendent identified by the Scott County Board of Education. There were 22 completed applications for the Superintendent position. Through research and paper screening, the committee will narrow the list to five applicants and will present the finalists to the Scott County Board of Education in February for further review. Eaton stressed the importance of confidentiality in this very important matter. The board meeting was adjourned as the Screening Committee entered into executive session.
