In a continuing effort toward creating a collaborative culture, please find a summary of the Scott County Board of Education work session on March 3, 2016. The Scott County Board of Education met on March 3, 2016 at 6:30pm at the Great Crossing Office Complex. At the meeting, Board Chair Haley Conway acknowledged the outstanding work of the superintendent screening committee. The field included more than 20 highly qualified applicants. Four finalists were interviewed by the Scott County Board of Education this week. Later in the meeting, board members entered into Executive Session to discuss the new superintendent position. Upon reconvening the board meeting, members announced a special-called board meeting to name the new Superintendent for Scott County Schools, scheduled for Monday, March 7, 2016 at 6:30pm at the Great Crossing Office Complex. Superintendent Patricia Putty will retire effective June 30, 2016.
Members received information from Dwight Salsbury, who represents Ross, Sinclaire and Associates LLC, regarding the recent sale of bonds which far exceeded expectations. Superintendent Putty advised board members that the significant savings and increased bonding potential support the continued discussion and progress toward the building of Great Crossing High School. In other business, board members approved consent items for minutes and use of a common carrier to transport the Anne Mason Elementary School Archery Team to the state archery tournament.
Next, board members discussed Non-Traditional Instruction (NTI) days which could allow alternative assignments for students on inclement weather days. It is important to carefully consider advantages and disadvantages and to design this initiative with fidelity. The waiver is due May 1, 2016 for implementation in the 2016-2017 school year, if approved. Assistant Superintendent of Student Learning Maurice Chappell and Director of Student Services Lynne Switzer will develop surveys for all teachers/staff, parents, and students to gather input from all stakeholders.
The Scott County Board of Education will conduct its regular meeting on Thursday, March 17, 2016 at 6:30pm at the Great Crossing Office Complex.
